Exams represent a significant revenue stream for the academy and are crucial for fellows and residents seeking CME credits. To enhance user experience, we redesigned the homepage to feature an ‘In Progress’ section. Users can start an exam online, save their progress, and resume from any device. We also introduced additional content such as recently completed and recent videos, personalized based on each user’s learning objectives.

To address user confusion identified during testing, I designed a set of icons for main content categories. These icons accompany thumbnails, providing clear visual cues. Below the thumbnails, an icon bar further clarifies the content type, with descriptions linking to detailed pages. Recognizing the preference for efficient content consumption, we enabled launching content directly from list views, while detailed views offered supplementary materials.

Extensive user testing validated our approach, confirming improved usability and user habit formation through recognizable thumbnail icons. Additional features included exam levels, quiz builder, score tracking, and exam retakes. Insights gained emphasized simplifying app navigation and reducing complexity, particularly in multi-level page structures supporting exam functionality.

Overall, this project successfully enhanced the app’s functionality, addressing user needs and promoting efficient content consumption through intuitive design enhancements and thoughtful feature additions.
